Image Of the Day caption:
In December, two sections of WHOI's next research vessel, R/V Neil Armstrong, were joined together in the Dakota Creek shipyard in Anacortes, Wash. The ship is being contructed in 13 separate sections, or blocks. When complete, the 238-foot ship will replace R/V Knorr as one of the oceanographic community's primary, multi-function research vessel.
