Image Of the Day caption:
In 2010 WHOI biologist Gareth Lawson (left) and Summer Student Fellow Jonathan Fincke deployed a towed vehicle called "HammarHead" from the research vessel Connecticut. HammarHead, named for its designer, engineer Terry Hammar, produces sound across many frequencies. Lawson uses broadband acoustic techniques developed at WHOI to detect krill underwater. Fincke, now a graduate student in the MIT-WHOI Joint Program, recently participated in the Synergy project, an experimental program that catalyzes collaborative partnerships between research scientists and artists.
