Image Of the Day caption:
In 2011, leaders of Congress presented gold medals to the crewmembers of Apollo 11, the 1969 journey commanded by astronaut Neil Armstrong that culminated with mans first steps on the moon. In April 2016, shortly after the research vessel Neil Armstrong made its inaugural arrival at the WHOI dock, a display case containing memorabilia from the medal ceremony was unveiled aboard the new ship to honor its namesake. Here, Armstrongs wife Carol is pictured by the case on the ship's bridge with two of WHOIs leaders: President and Director Mark Abbott (right) and Vice President of Marine Facilities and Operations Rob Munier.
