Image Of the Day caption:
WHOI President and Director Mark Abbott (left) and Prince Albert II of Monaco hold a 3D-printed replica of a wooden model of the hull of WHOIs former research vessel Chain. Prince Albert was a young boy in 1961 when he and his family attended Thanksgiving dinner on board the real R/V Chain in Monaco, at the invitation of its captain, Emerson Hiller. He grew up to establish the Prince Albert II Foundation, which focuses on environmental protection, sustainable development, climate change, and the promotion of renewable energies and biodiversity. The princes great-great-grandfather, Prince Albert I, was a pioneer in oceanography.
