Image Of the Day repeat caption:
In this image captured by WHOI biologist Larry Madin, a shell-less mollusk (genus Cardiapoda) resembles the head of a translucent ocean elephant. Madin photographed numerous gelatinous ocean animals over the course of his career, revealing their fascinating forms, and often, their beauty. He took this and many other such images on an expedition to the Sargasso Sea in the western North Atlantic in 2006, as part of the Census of Marine Zooplankton.
