Clipboard ready, WHOI physical oceanographer Amy Bower observes while Oceanus bosun Clindor Cacho lowers a Niskin bottle into the Red Sea to collect water. Bower led the October 2008 cruise to an unusual area of hot brine pools near the sea floor, a collaboration with King Abdullah University of Science and Technology. "The Niskin bottles captured hot, stinky water from the brines," said engineering assistant Alexander Dorsk of the Operational Scientific Services Group, who captured this image.
