Ah, look at these people. They look cheerful ... relaxed. You'd think they had all the time in the world. Here's where a 100 words may be worth more than a picture: At noon Wednesday, members of the WHOI team operating the Camper camera and sampling vehicle team were on Oden's fantail. They were waiting anxiously for the ship to maneuver through tough ice so that they could get in one last-gasp dive (their fifth over the past 48 hours) before Oden's scheduled departure. They wanted one final shot at getting what they had come for: finding a hot, smoking hydrothermal vent surrounded by a lush community of previously undiscovered species. While they waited, Camper team members emerged from the cramped, stuffy, dark container van where they had spent most of their time over the past two days, constantly monitoring Camper's operations. They stretched their legs, breathed in some fresh Arctic air, and got a dose of brilliant Arctic sunlight.
