Image of The Day caption:
MIT/WHOI Joint Program student Kjetil Våge operates a winch on the working deck of the research vessel Oceanus during an expedition in the North Atlantic in November 2007. Våge, Dave Fratantoni, and other researchers recovered moorings and instruments deployed as part of the CLIVAR Mode Water Dynamics Experiment (CLIMODE). The five-year project is designed to allow physical oceanographers and climate specialists to observe the exchange of heat and moisture between the ocean and atmosphere, as well as the formation of denser, colder waters that sink to the depths of the Atlantic.
