Caption from Oceanus online:
Aboard the reserach vessel Atlantis, a team of scientists stands in front of a new deep-sea instrument, the Vent-SID (Submerisible Incubation Device), which they tested for the first time. Vent-SID is designed to measure the types and rates of biochemical reactions performed by microbes at seafloor hydrothermal vents. From left are: postdoctoral investigator Nuria Fernandez Gonzalez and microbial biogeochemist Jeremy Rich of Brown Univeristy and microbiologists Craig Taylor and Stefan Sievert of Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution.
