On Wednesday, January 16, from 5:30-7:30 p.m., New Bedfords Ocean Explorium will host the first of two free "Family Science Nights." In addition to special activities, the event will feature WHOI engineer and robotics expert James Kinsey, shown here directing a 2010 dive by the autonomous vehicle Sentryin the Gulf of Mexico. There will also be a live satellite call to WHOI biologist Stefan Sievert and scientists aboard the research vessel Atlantis, who are currently using the remotely operated vehicle Jason to explore and study deep-sea hydrothermal vents at the East Pacific Rise. The event is made possible by funding from the National Science Foundation.
