Image Of the Day caption:
Few people know more about putting moorings into the ocean and getting them back than Scott Worrilow, who arrived at WHOI in 1978 and today is head of the Sub-Surface Mooring Operations Group. Here he demonstrates how a trigger mechanism failed to release a mooring from its anchor 6,000 feet deep in an experiment to measure deep-sea currents. A rescue mission in 2012 used the deep-sea robot Jason to cut the anchor line and retrieve the mooring. Worrilow will talk about his experiences at today's "Science Made Public" Lecture Series, 3:00 p.m. at the WHOI Ocean Science Exhibit Center.
