Caption from 2025 WHOI Wall Calendar, April:
A black-browed albatross (Thalassarche melanophris) chick on New Island, Falklands. After learning to fly, this chick will remain at sea for several years. WHOI postdoctoral investigator Francesco Ventura photographed this chick while working on a study that has observed this colony for more than two decades. Ventura and other researchers monitor the seabirds’ movement at sea during foraging and migration. Many have returned to the same nest with the same partner, since the start of the project, meaning they are older than most of the researchers studying them.
