On the way home from a research expedition in the Beaufort Sea, a science party explores the glacier in Aialik Bay, Alaska. The sense of scale is hard to capture, even with a camera, recounts Peigen Lin, a researcher at WHOI who captured this image. “As we approached the glacier, I was shocked at how small we were.” Lin was part of a team studying the Pacific water entering the western Arctic Ocean and how it impacts that ecosystem.
