WHOI scientist Peter Traykovski and colleagues place objects that mimic unexploded ordnance (UXOs) in offshore areas. They are equipped with transponders that let scientists track them. Undersea instruments measure waves and currents that cause the UXOs to move and/or be buried by sand and mud.
