Caption from Oceanus magazine, Vol. 51, No. 2, pg. 19:
A satellite image shows Helheim Glacier, one of many glaciers that drain ice from the Greenland Ice Sheet into coastal fjords that connect to the open ocean. Graduate student Rebecca Jackson was part of a team that deployed a mooring, named SF1, near the terminus of the glacier in Sermilik Fjord.
Image Of the Day caption:
A satellite image shows Helheim Glacier, one of many glaciers that drain ice from the Greenland Ice Sheet into coastal fjords that connect to the open ocean. MIT-WHOI graduate student Rebecca Jackson and her advisor, WHOI oceanographer Fiamma Straneo, were part of a team that deployed a mooring called SF1 near the terminus of the glacier in Sermilik Fjord to examine whether the fjord links warming waters in the open ocean to the glacier to spur glacial melting, accelerate the flow of glacial ice into the ocean, and raise sea levels.
