Cindy Pilskaln is on left. A sediment trap is prepared for deployment from research vessel Oceanus during a recent cruise in the Gulf of Maine. The instrument collects sinking particles on a pre-programmed schedule and is used to measure the flux or export of carbon and other important geochemical and biological components through the ocean, useful in climate change studies.
