From Dive 526. J. Heirtzler, scientist.
Caption from Oceanus magazine, Vol. 51, No. 1, pg. 4 timeline:
1974: A new titanium personnel sphere installed in 1973 allows Alvin to dive to 3,000 meters and to participate in Project FAMOUS. The French American expedition used subs to investigate the midocean ridge for the first time and revealed a seafloor that scientists had not imagined.
