The research icebreaker Nathaniel B. Palmer operated by the National Science Foundation takes a wave during mooring recovery in the Argentine Basin in November 2015.
Image Of the Day caption:
A wave breaks over the fantail of the research vessel Nathaniel B. Palmer, drenching several people working on deck during a WHOI-led equipment recovery operation in November 2015. The ship was working in the Argentine Basin near 42 S, 42 W a region known for its strong ocean currents and periods of fierce weather even in Austral summer. The scientific mission included recovery and deployment of four deep ocean moorings, several underwater gliders, and shipboard sampling.
