Fair weather meets foul late on an August 2004 day in the Beaufort Sea, north of Alaska. Since 2003, WHOI researchers have been examining the dynamics and changes in Arctic waters by deploying instruments on, between, and below the ice. "I was visiting with folks on the ship's bridge, and it was clear that we were just about to cross this sharp weather front...so I grabbed my camera," wrote polar research specialist Rick Krishfield, a veteran of more than 20 Arctic trips. The Beaufort Gyre research team will resume its work?and share their experiences online?starting on July 17, 2008.
