Engineer Chris Lumping inspects a "line pack" of synthetic rope, looking for any tangles that might prevent it from unwinding smoothly. The line pack will be part of an assembly used to recover a 6,000-lb. anchor used for specialized moorings in coastal waters. The moorings will be components of WHOI's participation in the Ocean Observatories Initiative, a large project funded by the National Science Foundation that will provide measurements and observations of the ocean over the next two to three decades.
