Notes
Image of The Day caption: WHOI machinist Tim Kling uses a precision water-jet cutter to fabricate an internal frame member of a buoy destined to be part of an upcomig at-sea test of components of the Ocean Observatories Initiative (OOI). OOI is a networked infrastructure of science-driven sensor systems to measure the physical, chemical, geological and biological variables in the ocean and seafloor. When completed, it will be one fully integrated system collecting data on coastal, regional, and global scales to provide greater knowledge of the ocean s interrelated systems and their effects of biodiversity, global warming, ocean and coastal ecosystems, environmental health and climate.
