A technician in the WHOI Oceanographic Systems Laboratory installs the motor controller board for the thrusters in a REMUS 600 vehicle (so numbered for its ability to dive to 600 meter depth). The autonomous Remote Environmental Monitoring Units (or REMUS) have been deployed everywhere from the harbors of Iraq to the coast of Panama and Antarctica to the inside of the New York City aqueduct system.
