The Research Vessel Atlantis leaves port in Lake Union, Seattle, en route to Victoria, Canada.
The ship on the right, Alucia, was originally the Institut francais de recherche pour l'exploitation de la mer's (Ifremer's) R/V Nadir, the original support ship for the French research submersible Nautile and is now up for sale.
WHOI and Ifremer have a memorandum of understanding to enhance research in ocean science with a long-term objective to expand and sustain a full range of research collaborations in ocean sciences and technology, and thus contribute to improve understanding of the oceans.
