Using the Computerized Scanning and Imaging Facility (CSI) at WHOI, scientists can make three-dimensional reconstructions detailing the anatomy of sea turtles. This Kemp's ridley turtle was scanned to help diagnose a lung disease.

Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution possesses the only imaging facility in the world entirely dedicated to marine research: the Computerized Scanning and Imaging Facility (CSI), led by biologist Darlene Ketten. Using the CSI, scientists can make three-dimensional reconstructions of animals, such as this Kemp's ridley turtle. Today WHOI seeks funding to purchase a new CT/PET scanner, which will allow scientists to better understand the sophisticated sensory reactions of many live marine animals, including hearing in marine mammals; color changes in octopus and squid; responses to sound, light, and odors in fish; and magnetic field responses in sea turtles.
