Image Of the Day caption:
Nearly 2,000 people visited the WHOI pier August 13 for the third Woods Hole Science Stroll. A big attraction was a tour of the WHOI-operated research vessel Atlantis and the deep-diving human-occupied submersible Alvin. Danik Forsman, an Alvin pilot-in-training black shirt, facing camera), explained features of the Alvin and answered questions about it, as did Rod Catanach, a long-time WHOI engineer (purple shirt, back to camera), who has worked on Alvin for decades and participated in the sub's most recent major upgrade. The Science Stroll also included many other exhibits about WHOI research and technology, as well as exhibits from other scientific institutions in Woods Hole.
