Image Of the Day caption:
WHOI research assistant Paul Henderson watches over a water sampling station in the Northwest Territories, Canada. MIT-WHOI Joint Program student Lauren Kipp led the 2016 expedition to study processes on land that might affect the chemistry of the Arctic Ocean. The previous year, Kipp took part in a two-month cruise aboard the U.S. Coast Guard ice breaker Healy that revealed surprising chemical evidence of changes occurring in ocean waters along the Arctic coast as a result of widespread warming. Kipp is also studying chemicals transported from land into the ocean in the hopes of building a more comprehensive picture of changes throughout the region.
