Caption from WHOI News Release dated 01/21/2019:
Deep-sea sediment cores shown split into halves. By analyzing the cores using high intensity X-rays, the researchers found low levels of organic carbon within the 25 million year old sediment that were composed of a type of carbon that microbes can use for energy.
