Image Of the Day caption:
Biologist Heidi Sosik briefed WHOI volunteers recently on the new NSF-funded Long-term Ecological Research site that she helped establish off the Northeast U.S. coast. The NSF-funded site will extend from Maine to North Carolina and create an intensive study area connecting the Marthas Vineyard Coastal Observatory (MVCO) on the inner shelf to the Ocean Observatories Initiative Pioneer Array on the outer shelf. Volunteers, many of whom have been associated with the Institution for over 20 years, act as docents and interpreters at the Ocean Science Exhibit Center, offer guided tours of the WHOI dock and select facilities during the summer, and as projectionists at weekly Peanut Butter Club events.
