On October 8, WHOI elected a new slate of officers to its Board of Trustees and Corporation. The newly elected officers "have great passion for the ocean and have shown their deep affinity for Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution and its research through years of dedicated and active service," said Newton P.S. Merrill, who has served as board chairman since 2007. The officers are Steven Hoch (far left), chairman of the corporation; David B. Scully (second from right), chairman of the board; and Jefferson Hughes (far right), vice chairman of the board of trustees. Mark Abbott (second from left) was appointed WHOI President and Director in June.
