Image Of the Day caption:
The R/V Neil Armstrong (left) and its yet-unnamed sister ship (currently designated AGOR-28) sit side-by-side under construction in Anacortes, Wash. In selecting WHOI to operate one of the two new vessels, the U.S. Navy acknowledged the pivotal role that the North Atlantic and Arctic Oceans play in such fundamental planetary processes as governing Earths climate. When delivered in 2015, the Neil Armstrong will be uniquely equipped to enable scientists from around the world to reveal new details about the global ocean system.
