Notes
Image Of the Day caption: WHOI biologist Tim Shank, JP student Santiago Herrera, and research scientist Taylor Heyl (left to right) monitor live video feeds the Okeanos Explorer in Shank's Laboratory. From July through August, a group of scientists and technicians at sea and on shore are exploring the diversity and distribution of deep-sea habitats off the Northeast coast of the U.S. The 36-day expedition consists of cruises to the Mytilus Seamount and canyons along the continental shelf slope in an effort to collect vital data and information that will aid in the conservation and protection of these undisturbed ecosystems. Beginning today, all of the dives by the ROV, equipped with a high-definition camera, are broadcast live to the public.
