Image Of the Day caption:
Each summer, undergraduates from around the world come to WHOI to learn about ocean science. The summer fellowship, which started in 1959, gives visiting students the opportunity to get hands-on research experience working with world-class scientists and engineers. Two of this year's fellows are Erin Houlihan (left) of Bowdoin College and Colette Kelly of Barnard College, shown here in the Environmental Systems Laboratory. Under the guidance of their WHOI advisors--biologist Lauren Mullineaux and geochemist Dan McCorkle, respectively--Houlihan is investigating the effects of ocean acidification on oyster larval swimming behavior, and Kelly is studying groundwater's influence on acidification in a local estuary.
