It wouldnt be summer in Woods Hole without the traditional photo on the front porch of the Walsh Cottage on the WHOI campus, documenting the annual Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Fellowship program. Each year since 1959, the cottage has been occupied by leading oceanographers, physicists, and mathematicians, along with eight to ten graduate student fellows. Over the GFD program's history, many prominent scientists from around the world have spent time deep in conversation exploring the large-scale motions of fluids in oceans and atmospheres on Earth or other planets.
