At midnight in Greenland, WHOI geologist Mark Behn looked south over a glacial lake toward camp—and his sleeping bag. Researchers used helicopters to transport food and gear to establish a field camp on the ice sheet. There were no hot showers, but there was plenty of cold, fresh drinking water.
