Dr. Christopher German is a specialist in exploring deep oceans for sites of seafloor fluid flow and the unusual life that might be found there. Educated at the University of Cambridge in the UK, he first spent time at WHOI when he was a post-doctoral research fellow at MIT in the late 1980s.
Image Of the Day caption:
WHOI geochemist Chris German joined a panel recently with (left to right) Robert Ballard from the University of Rhode Island, Mary Voytek from NASA, Frieder Klein from WHOI, and Christopher Glein from the Southwest Research Institute to mark the 40th anniversary of the discovery of hydrothermal vents. The event was part of the Morss Colloquium, and addressed the question of how discovering life capable of surviving on chemicals flowing from vents on the seafloor changed understanding of how life might exist on ocean worlds beyond Earth.
