Image of The Day caption:
It took 35 of Jim Broda's lab-mates and friends to hoist the PVC prototype of a new long-coring pipe outside of WHOI's McLean Laboratory. The new piston-corer, being installed on the research vessel Knorr, will be the longest in the U.S. academic research fleet. The 25,000-pound corer will penetrate as far as 150 feet into the ocean bottom and will allow scientists to sample ancient seafloor sediments that are potentially rich with information about ocean- and climate history.
