A successful day of autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) operations in the Southern Ocean off Antarctica was reason to celebrate during the fall 2012 Sea Ice Physics and Ecosystem Experiment. From left to right are: Clay Kunz (WHOI), Guy Williams (Antarctic Climate and Ecosystems Cooperative Research Centre), Peter Kimball (WHOI), Rowan Frost (Australian Maritime College), and Polly Alexander (University of Tasmania). Their ship, the Aurora Australis, is in the background. The team was heading out to collect an acoustic transponder from a hole in the ice when they came across this jumping opportunity.
