Image of The Day caption:
The moon rises over the Denmark Strait and Greenlands east coast during an October 2008 expedition onboard the research vessel Knorr. Led by WHOI scientist Robert Pickart, researchers spent a month exploring waters flowing through the Denmark Strait into the Irminger Sea. Located between Greenland and Iceland, the Denmark Strait is a critical checkpoint through which cold, dense waters from the north flow into the main body of the North Atlantic Ocean.
