Caption from Oceanus magazine, Vol. 53, No. 2, pg. 27:
In her experiments, Megan May puts small discs embedded with a known antibiotic concentration on a lawn of bacteria growing in a petri dish. If the antibiotic effectively kills the bacteria, a ring of no bacteria forms around the discs. If no ring forms, the antibiotic is ineffective and the bacteria are antibiotic-resistant.
