WHOI welder and fabricator Paul Keith assembles a stainless steel cage for an acoustic modem that will be installed on an Ocean Observatories Initiative (OOI) sub-surface flanking mooring in the Argentine Basin. The OOI is an NSF-funded, observatory that gathers data across three scales of marine systemscoastal, regional, and globaland is integrated by an overarching data infrastructure that gives researchers the ability to monitor and respond to events detected by the network and, from their desktop, adapt the sampling strategies of equipment and sensors deployed on the moorings.
