Image Of the Day caption:
WHOI is located in Woods Hole, one of eight villages in the town of Falmouth, Mass. WHOI research associate Steve Pike packed a mobile van to be shipped the next day from Falmouth to southern England for a cruise scheduled to end in May in Falmouth, U.K. Pike and WHOI chemist Ken Buesseler will be on board the British research vessel Discovery to make the first-ever comparison between the two primary instruments used to measure particles sinking through the oceanthe neutral buoyant sediment trap designed at WHOI and the U.K.-designed PELAGRA. Sinking particles are an important part of Earth's carbon cycle.
