This image of a blue iceberg, calved off a glacier, was captured on a recent research trip to waters off Greenland. Its striking color indicates that the ice in it is old, having formed from snow that fell on Greenland long ago. WHOI scientists have found that the ice sheet covering much of Greenland is melting and that the glaciers linking it to the surrounding ocean are moving more quickly and calving more frequently as the ocean warms and circulation patterns in the North Atlantic change.
