Image of The Day caption:
Each summer, graduate students in the MIT-WHOI Joint Program are welcomed to Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) and to oceanography with the ten-day Jake Peirson Summer Cruise aboard the Sea Education Association ship SSV Corwith Cramer. Students learn how to do research at sea and participate in all aspects of life aboard a sailing vessel, including navigation, handling the sails, and upkeep of the ship. Postdoctoral Scholar Donglai Gong captured this view of deck, sea, and sails (and his feet) from the mast, which he called "one of the most beautiful and serene places on the ship."
