Image of The Day caption:
WHOI 2011 Summer Student Fellows Thomas DeCarlo (left, University of San Diego) and Max Kaplan (University of St. Andrews) deploy a sediment sampling instrument called a Van Veen Grab Sampler from the deck WHOI's coastal research vessel Tioga. Every summer, undergraduates accepted into the program work in a scientist's laboratory and experience oceanographic research firsthand. Most of the students also participate in a daylong cruise on Tioga viewing and using a variety of standard oceanographic instruments.
Annual Summer Student Fellows hands-on, one-day, at-sea practicum cruise onboard the R/V Tioga focusing on data collection and sampling methods with advanced oceanographic technology and instruments.
