Image Of the Day caption:
WHOI senior welder/fabricator Anthony DeLane watches R/V Atlantis backing into the dock. Fabricators work with WHOI scientists and engineers to construct the physical frameworks for instruments, including moorings, buoys, and prototypes of new equipment. Fabricators also repair shipboard parts for WHOIs fleet of research vessels and help secure dock lines upon the ships return. When vessels prepare to depart, the fabricators fashion any last-minute parts that the scientists might need. DeLane finds this diverse work challenging, saying, Its always different because science is always changing.
