Image Of the Day caption:
In spring 2013, WHOI engineer Jeff Lord stopped in the middle of the subtropical North Atlantic Ocean to fix a buoys electronics. He and his colleagues, who study the upper ocean and the interactions between air and the ocean surface, installed this moored surface buoy in 2012 to collect information on salinity and its processes at one of the saltiest spots in the North Atlantic. The buoy is part of the Salinity Processes in the Upper Ocean Regional Study (SPURS), and, until it was recovered in the fall, streamed data back to Woods Hole every three hours.
