WORLD LEADERS IN OCEAN SCIENCE AND PHILANTHROPY COME TOGETHER TO CREATE THE FIRST-EVER OCEAN PAVILION AT U.N. CLIMATE CONFERENCE
The ocean took center stage in the Blue Zone at this year’s United Nations climate conference (COP27) in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt. The Ocean Pavilion, organized by WHOI and Scripps Institution of Oceanography and in partnership with 18 other oceanographic organizations from around the world, raised awareness among a high-level policy audience about the ocean’s role in climate, the potential it holds to help shape a sustainable future, and the need for science to lead the development of solutions. The Pavilion served as a central hub for over 15,000 conference delegates and more than 60 events where ideas were exchanged about how to address climate change by leveraging the ocean. The Ocean Pavilion also fostered new partnerships and relationships and positioned WHOI as a leader and convener on a global stage.
