Katarina Fraser (left), a science teacher at the Perkins School for the Blind, and Amy Bower, senior scientist in the WHOI Physical Oceanography Department, say goodbye to land and prepare to board the research vessel Knorr for an unusual cruise to install an innovative instrument that measures currents in the far north Atlantic. Bower, who is visually impaired, initiated a partnership with the Perkins School to involve students in science and her work on ocean currents. As part of the ongoing collaboration, Bower developed a Web site for the online expedition, OceanInsight, and invited Fraser to participate in the cruise.
