David Labranch (left) and Neil Lozey from Rose Steel, Inc., add the final beam to WHOI's new LOSOS (Laboratory for Ocean Sensors and Observing Systems) building recently during the traditional "topping out" ceremony to commemorate completion of the building's frame. The 26,000 square foot building is being constructed in part with funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act awarded by the U.S. Department of Commerce through the National Institute of Standards and Technology. When completedprojected in 2012it will be home to the Ocean Observatories Initiative's Coastal and Global Scale Nodes, the Martha's Vineyard Coastal Observatory, the Ocean-Bottom Seismometer Instrument Pool, and the Environmental Sample Processor Lab.
