Caption from Oceanus magazine, Vol. 53, No. 2, pg. 57:
Vent-SID (Submersible Incubation Device) sits near an active hydrothermal vent on the seafloor. It draws vent fluids into an incubator chamber and measures the metabolic activity of microbes in the fluids under pressure and temperature conditions in which they normally occur.
Caption from Oceanus online:
Vent-SID was deployed atop a vent site on the seafloor called Crab Spa. The Vent-SID collects fluid from the vent and incubates it in the white chambers near the top. Then it measures the rates at which microbes in the vent fluids perform chemosynthesis.
